Hair Loss & Nutrition

There are minerals and vitamins that can have an effect on hair growth, But in most cases we get a good balance from our diet. I recently saw a TV ad for a food processor who’s spokesperson stated she was wearing wigs due to thinning hair and now after using this amazing product, her hair has grown back. It is reprehensible that marketing people will use any means to sell a product , playing on the emotion we have when experiencing hair loss, even claiming hair regrowth, Always check with a medical professional before purchasing products to (Grow Hair)

Up Selling Hair Transplants

Some unethical medical practices are resorting to what I consider,(extortion of patients undergoing hair restoration) After removing the donor hair, They are told they have some extra grafts. They are informed that they may purchase these extra grafts, or they will be disposed of. I have never heard of a reputable Doctor or Clinic doing this, but Always agree on a price and or number of grafts or hairs before any Hair Transplant surgery.

Hormone replacement can be helpful with increasing energy, strength and libido. However caution should be taken not to exceed recommended serum levels. Higher levels does not always mean better, elevated hormone levels can be a factor in hair loss as well as lower levels.

The out of country generics are suspect to being counterfeit. If you have experienced this problem try the brand for at least three months.

FDA Clears Another Laser

Theradome a medical device company recently cleared FDA with their LH80 laser for improved hair growth . Clinical trials indicate improved hair growth in 98 percent of patients with increased hair density. This is the second FDA cleared topical laser cleared. Lexington International received clearance in 2007, for the 650nm hand held Hair Max. We performed a thirty five patient study of the Hair Max published in the International Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology Journal in 2003. This technology doesn’t grow new hair follicles, but simulates existing hair to grow faster and thicker.

The Importance of Biopreservation during Hair Transplantation

Posted On: December 4, 2013

Appropriate preservation of cells & tissue is a critical factor in hair transplantation procedures. When the follicular units are harvested from the donor area, this tissue experiences multiple forms of stress related to the procedure. This can be especially true in automated operations where the grafts are dumped into a holding vessel by a suction. The gentler the live hairs & roots are handled the better the survival rate. Free radicals generated by normal metabolism are thought to be slowed by thermal cooling, and grafts should be refrigerated upon removal and before being placed into the recipient area for best results.

Surgical Assistants Your Success & Safety

Posted On: November 11, 2013

I want to encourage any one seeking a Hair Transplant to look at the qualifications of the Surgical Assistants as closely as the would look at the Surgeons. In Many cases, especially with the new automated equipment, most of the work is done by an assistant, with the Doctor only being (On Premise) This is in my opinion, a very Grey Area, The laws governing Medical & Surgical procedures have not been challenged on this to date. But be fully aware of the roll the Doctor and Their Assistants will play in any operation. In a conventional setting the physician will do any thing that requires invading the tissue of the patient, The Dissection of hair, after it is removed from the patient will (in most cases) be performed by the Surgical Assistant. This does not effect the quality of the work, Unless you have a assistant with little experienced or a clinic that sub contracts staff.
